``Pilot: We are all done, and the self test has cleared. ``Vanna: Okay, let us go for start up. --- So far so good. Worker, can you go and fetch Tetra quin? ``Worker: Certus. ``Tetra: Zaa. ``Vanna: Check the NAV out. ``Tetra: It looks mostly the same other than another velocity scale. ``Vanna: That will do. Plot a course for North Axis. ``Tetra: Course laid in. ``Vanna: Unlocking orbit. Hyperdrive in. Mach 20 and zoom. --- ``Pilot: The acceleration is quicker. `Vanna: Mach 40. ``Albi: She sounds different and it is quieter. ``Pilot: I had noticed that and she does not hunt. ``Vanna: Mach 60. ``Tetra: Will overshoot North Axis at this rate. ``Vanna: Fine. Mach 80. ``Albi: Never. ``Tetra: Changing velocity scale. ``Vanna: What do you think Pilot? ``Pilot: She is a lot smoother. ``Vanna: Mach 100. We are on the dark side of our globe. ``Pilot: This is absolutely amazing. ``Vanna: We need the speed to cut down the distances between worlds. Okay start slowing down Mach 20 at a time, owing to the velocity lag. ``Tetra: She slows down better as well. ``Pilot: Go to Mach Zero. ``Albi: It controls better. ``Vanna: Okay Tetra, set a course for home. ``Tetra: Ah! This is different. It is giving us a predicted time scale, without having to work it out and at different velocities. So 20 units will be at Mach 52. ``Pilot: Try it and we will see. ``Tetra: Active.
[Later]
``Tetra: Neither did we have the overrun problem. ``Vanna: Okay we are going to Cepheus, so we will give it a proper test run. ``Tetra: We might as well pop over to Planet Q for fuel. ``Vanna: Good idea. Anyway powering down. I think we all have had enough for one qef, so everyone home. ``Tetra: Zimo. ``Albi: Zimo. ``Vanna: Zaffre worker you have done a good job, and zarfs Pilot. ``Pilot: Very impressive Vanna. If you are bringing back V10 where are you going to park it? ``Vanna: Oh heck! We could use SP10. but that is awkward. There is a hard piece of bare ground on the east housing site, so it will have to go there. ``Pilot: I suggest you get someone in like the Mob, to clear all the rubble. ``Vanna: Zarfs. I will talk to Mob.

``Chief: The committee have initially approved further expenditure, and they accept that the fuel bill will be huge, on this very long trip. ``Sheriff: Zaffre Sir. ``Chief: I will send a confirmation to Vanna shortly, but I wanted to see you first. We could be in for ¢50K on this trip! Is it justified? ``Sheriff: It will hurt them badly, but it will not stop them. If we can demolish their hideout, it will put them out of action for a while. The only thing we must watch is not to blow up a Saucer on the ground, because the white flash and the fallout. ``Chief: That is what came up in committee. Okay, it is approved. Anything else to add? ``Sheriff: There is a short trip tomorrow to Cepheus, and I need to go and see our Officers, as we need co-operation with Kami Officer, on the east side of Cepheus, because there was a possible attack on V9 and there is a possible connection. ``Chief: Okay, approved. ``Sheriff: Zaffre sir. I must go home and pack.

``Zola: I have booked to go to Earth and on the next Algol trip. ``Chela: That is more like the independent Zola, which upholds your reputation. ``Zola: Hey? ``Chela: I do not want a 'zaa Cat' I want an individual who I can respect. ``Zola: Crikey. ``Chela: I am off to Cepheus in the morning to pick up V10. ``Zola: That is another two qef trip. ``Chela: Not now they have had another modification done. ``Zola: Crikey.
